STEM CELLS: Some Good News

The Editors of STEM CELLS are most pleased to announce the appointment of Editorial Board member Margaret A. Goodell, Ph.D., as a new Senior Editor. Dr. Goodell is an associate professor at the Baylor College of Medicine’s Center for Cell and Gene Therapy in Houston, Texas, and is a leading researcher in hematopoietic stem cell biology, human hematopoietic stem cells and gene therapy, and stem cell plasticity. We welcome Dr. Goodell’s contribution to the Journal’s senior leadership. She will enhance our excellence, as well as broaden our expertise in multiple types of stem cells.

The Editors are also proud to announce STEM CELLS’ new impact factor of 5.802. This increase from last year’s 4.034 impact factor is a testament to the high-quality manuscripts of our authors. We anticipate that STEM CELLS’ impact will continue to increase, as we have already received more than 200 manuscript submissions during the first 8 months of 2004. The expertise and dedication of our Editorial Board is also critical to our success. We are grateful for the time and attention that they contribute to the peer-review process—it is this that enables STEM CELLS to attract and publish the finest manuscripts.

The work published in STEM CELLS will become increasingly important and prominent as ethical debates continue to swirl around the issue of stem cell research in this election year. Watch for an upcoming review by Editorial Board member Dr. George Daley that will explore missed opportunities in human embryonic stem cell research.
