Myocyte generation in the diseased human heart. Metaphase chromosomes (blue, 4,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole [DAPI]) are apparent in small dividing cardiomyocytes (red, {alpha}-sarcomeric actin) in patients affected by diabetes.
